Magic is an aspect of the human experience that has always been with us. It is a way of living that involves interacting with the universe as if it were alive and intelligent, a fact that many current scientific movements are desperately trying to alert us to. As experience has shown, if you speak to the universe in the proper manner, THE UNIVERSE WILL SPEAK BACK. Shamanism, one of the most profound forms of magic, shows that what is visible is the manifestation of the invisible; it is the use of one's understanding of the invisible to affect change in the visible. How to negotiate unmanifest realms, while keeping oneself grounded in the manifest, is the Work (and Play) of a lifetime.
Magic is neither religion nor science. It is simply a technique for helping the universe grow. The exaltation of the creative impulse (magic) is an excellent framework for reorienting people towards creating solutions, as opposed to fetishizing about already known problems. As with magic itself, one is recommended not to take any of it too seriously, although one is also recommended not to back off into ironic distance. It can be easy to go too far in, but it is far, far easier to miss the bus completely.
It was those infinite abysses of human potential I was noticing people successfully expanding themselves into, without losing their balance, and it was quickly becoming clear to me that I was seeing evolution, in leaps and bounds- not only of the body, but of culture, of mind and of the human "spirit." In our present moment we are not seeing the apocolypse as in the destruction of the world, but the apocolypse as in the destruction of our (solely) rational worldview. We are seeing how shamefully limited our perspective has been, and we are seeing, quite clearly, our own evolution. (1987-2012) The Apocolypse...The Unveiling of Truths.
While magic has never totally gone away, in the preceding century shamanism, magic, and hightened consiousness have slowly returned to high visibility within culture, in a wholly new form all gussied up for the Third Millenium---the revelation of the living universe and the divinity of ALL.
thank the psylocibin psychedelic mushroom for language. thank a 'drug' for our current form of life.
This Earth will soon be our perfect world. I imagine art, love, joy, music, exploration, adventure. We all can imagine it. We call it "Eadin." Our breath creates it, and it will be the place where we all live. I imagine green pastures instead of concrete buildings, where everybody is free to explore themselves, their world, and their universe. No fear. No shame. No guilt. No shyness. No repression. We want Utopia. The buildings will be made of trees. Magical women will live in the foggy marshes, charting the data of the stars. The more we pour into this goal, the more real it becomes. Humans will be free, not slaved, not brutalized and hypnotized by the rich owners of the Earth who create everthing with their media hallucination. The trees will expell a rainbow language to the children as they sleep. The animals free. The dead spirits and the dead cultures with us once again. A world where everybody mattered. NO MORE RELIGION. NO MORE WARS. NO MORE POVERTY. NO MORE HYPNOSIS. NO MORE LIES. Where the world was no longer crowded. People gathering in the fields at dusk to know the presence of the divinity of the natural world. Thoughts shared. It is idealistic and silly as hell, but then you have to aim higher than your mark, in order to ensure you hit your mark. We Want Utopia.
Once you've engaged with any kind of magical practice, it's about as easy to ignore as a hungry cat; you can't walk a foot without tripping over it. This is the universe saying its ready to play.
"I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:3
It is our birthright to swallow the stars, to burn an eternal flame, to soar across the heavens...
A very large part of the population of the population has at least some experience with consiousness-expanding drugs. Those who use them intelligently, or even who use them for magic, are exceedingly rare. While drugs can be an important catalyst in magic, should be added, they are certainly not the point or the end state, or even essential in its workings.
Altered states, however, ARE essential, and though drugs may be the easiest way there, they are also the hardest to direct towards productive ends. Peter J. Carrol, one of the originators of chaos magic, made the foundation stone of his approach that "altered states of consciousness are the key to magical power," and it is indeed altered states of all forms that we seek to cultivate. The human nervous system is the best toy in the world, and we are here to explore and innovate with it. This is true on more than just the individual level.
People were taught God's up there, and he left a long time ago.
What we are now emphasizing is that WE ARE GOD TOO. People are going to love to learn it.
Base your beliefs in the ultimate symbol: infinity. That is what the young child perceives clearer than the "normal" adult. That is what we seek... pure innocence.
